Congratulations to Our Most Recent Daisy Award Recipient, Laura Egle, RN!

Laura Egle, a registered nurse from 10WN, was nominated by a bone marrow transplant patient and his wife for the outstanding care provided to them during their multiple stays at Karmanos. Laura received this prestigious honor, as she exemplified excellence in nursing and always provided compassionate care.

At the award presentation, Laura received a certificate, a beautiful hand-carved Healers Touch sculpture from Zimbabwe, an honoree pin, a congratulations banner to be hung on the unit, and cinnamon rolls to share with her colleagues.

“I was shocked and definitely not expecting it at all,” Egle noted about receiving the award.  The presentation was made extra special and touching as the patient and his wife were present to read their nomination and offer their congratulations and sincere thanks to Laura for her exceptional care and compassion.

“It was a great honor, especially because it came from such a great patient,” said Egle.

The Daisy Award comes from the Daisy Foundation, whose aim is to honor nurses who go above and beyond to provide patients and families with excellent clinical care delivered with the highest level of compassion. The Daisy Award is a recognition program to celebrate and recognize nurses nominated by patients, families and co-workers. The nominations are blinded and sent to our internal committee at Karmanos, where they then read and score the nominations using criteria that focus on compassion, the mission and values of the organization.
