The Inpatient Oncology Unit is located on the 11th floor of McLaren Regional Medical Center. Both medical and surgical cancer patients are selected for placement on this unit.
The Oncology Unit is supported by a highly skilled, interdisciplinary team of experienced and caring oncology health care professionals.
The team consists of registered nurses, licensed practitioners, nursing assistants, unit clerks, residents, and medical, surgical and radiation oncologists.
Assisting the team are staff members from: IV therapy, pharmacy, psychiatry, rehabilitation services, social work, nutrition, hospice and case management.
The philosophy of McLaren Cancer Program, "The quality of care enhances the quality of life" is reflected in the Oncology Unit's continued commitment to the holistic approach to cancer patient management.
The multidisciplinary team discusses the patient’s treatment plan, goals and progress. Families are encouraged to participate in the patient’s plan of careand therefore, their needs are also assessed by the team.
Special care is taken to provide the cancer patient and his/her family with support and compassion in dealing with the disease process of cancer. As we continue to strive for excellence, enlarged scopes of treatment involving interventional radiology and medical oncology allows McLaren to be one of the few sites in the nation to offer chemo-embolization to our patients.
