Urogynecology & Incontinence
Urogynecology is the study and treatment of female pelvic medicine, pelvic floor reconstruction and incontinence. As you might expect, the term is a contraction of two words - "urology" and "gynecology." A urologist specializes in the treatment of the urinary system while a gynecologist focuses on the female reproductive system. A urogynecologist combines expertise from both disciplines - focusing on the female urinary and reproductive systems and the pelvic floor.
Endometrial Ablation
NovaSure Endometrial Ablation System is a quick yet significant medical procedure to reduce or eliminate excessive menstrual bleeding and provides a significant reduction in PMS symptoms and painful menstruation. The procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure at McLaren-Flint or in the physician's office by a board-certified gynecologist who has received special training in endometrial ablation. The procedure takes approximately five minutes. When undergoing the procedure, the patient is given local anesthetic. A tube is inserted into the cervix and expands to fill the uterus. Through an electric current, the uterine lining is cauterized, greatly reducing or eliminating menstrual periods. This procedure is not for women who plan on becoming pregnant.
