McLaren's leading heart and vascular program
offers advanced diagnostic and treatment options, including minimally
invasive cardiac procedures, robotic-assisted cardiac surgery, as well
as research. MRMC is certified by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan as
a Cardiac Center of Excellence. Additionally, MRMC has a national five
star rating for cardiology services. MRMC recently completed an
expansion and renovation of its cardiovascular suite, adding two
additional state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs, including one
for specialized electrophysiology studies. This brings the total number
of cardiac cath labs to five. Two new operating rooms dedicated to
cardiac surgery were also added in the surgical suite. The cardiologists
and cardiac surgeons at MRMC have achieved many "firsts" in the region,
utilizing advanced technology. Most recently, McLaren was the first
hospital in the region to offer 3-D atrial fibrillation ablation to
correct irregular heart rhythm in specific patients. MRMC was also the
first hospital in the region to perform multi-vessel off pump coronary
artery bypass as well as videoscopic saphenous vein harvesting. McLaren
was also a leader in offering minimally invasive direct coronary artery
bypass and minimally invasive aortic valve replacement. One of our
world-renowned cardiac surgeons was the first in the region to perform
the MAZE procedure, a surgical option to treat atrial fibrillation. This
cardiac surgeon also performed Michigan’s first "awake" coronary artery
bypass surgery. Along with expertise in the cardiac arena, McLaren also
excels in vascular care. A nationally renowned group of vascular
surgeons offer the latest treatment and technology in the area of
vascular surgery to patients at McLaren Regional Medical Center. This
group of vascular surgeons was among a select few in the nation chosen
for participation in five different clinical trials involving an
advanced carotid stenting procedure. McLaren is the only area hospital
working with these surgeons in the implementation of these clinical
trials.

Off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery (OPCAB)
Endoscopic vein harvesting
Endovascular stent grafting
Both OPCAB and endoscopic vein harvesting
procedures lead to faster recovery, less trauma, and improved quality of
life. Endoscopic stent grafting is a minimally-invasive procedure for
repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms.
