Women's Services

McLaren Regional Medical Center (MRMC) is rooted in a tradition of providing skilled and compassionate medical care for women. Founded in 1919, MRMC’s predecessor, Women’s Hospital was the area’s first hospital for women. Women’s healthcare has greatly evolved since our inception. Greater understanding of women’s unique health needs, coupled with advances in medicine and technology has resulted in women living longer and healthier lives. MRMC maintains its commitment to offer area women advanced obstetrical and gynecological care provided by skilled medical professionals.

Gynecological Oncology is available at McLaren to treat women with gynecologic cancers. A board-certified gynecological oncologist is on staff to perform surgical therapy, as well as guide women through chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Incontinence Clinic for Urinary Dysfunction
Urinary incontinence is defined as the involuntary leakage of urine. The problem afflicts millions of adults in the United States, 85% of them being women. Women experience incontinence more often than men as a result of pregnancy and childbirth, menopause, and the structure of the female urinary tract. Among women, the problem is most commonly associated with a specific condition called stress urinary incontinence. The McLaren Incontinence Clinic for Urinary Dysfunction is operated under the direction of Stephen C. Wang, M.D.  Click here for more information on the Incontinence Clinic.

OB/GYN Offering New Services
Ravinder Samra, M.D. has begun offering several new procedures to female patients who are dealing with urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse health issues. Some procedures are performed in the office and others at McLaren Regional Medical Center. For stress urinary incontinence Dr. Samra now offers pubovaginal slings and transvaginal tape. He is employing newer and less invasive techniques for pelvic organ prolapse which take advantage of meshes and trocars. He is also offering complete in-office complex urodynamics to differentiate between different types of urinary incontinence with a newly acquired urodynamic machine.

Endometrial Ablation
Impedance Controlled Endometrial Ablation System is a quick yet significant medical procedure to reduce or eliminate excessive menstrual bleeding and provides a significant reduction in PMS symptoms and painful menstruation. The procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure at McLaren Regional Medical Center by a board-certified gynecologist who has received special training in endometrial ablation. The procedure takes approximately five minutes. When undergoing the procedure, the patient is given local anesthetic. A tube is inserted into the cervix and expands to fill the uterus. Through an electric current, the uterine lining is cauterized, greatly reducing or eliminating menstrual periods. This procedure is not for women who plan on becoming pregnant.

Obstetrics

Genetic Testing
About 3% of babies born in the United States have some type of major birth defect. Your doctor can tell you about your genetic risks and the tests you can have. McLaren has physicians on staff trained to counsel and conduct genetic testing.

Amniocentesis is the most common procedure to test for birth defects. A board-certified OB/GYN at McLaren will discuss if this test should be considered during a pregnancy. With amniocentesis, a sample of amniotic fluid is withdrawn through a needle from a sac that surrounds the fetus. Amniotic fluid contains cells from the fetus that can be tested. These cells have the same genetic makeup as the fetus.

Level II Ultrasonography
Between your 18th and 22nd week of pregnancy, your doctor will probably perform an ultrasound to check on the development of your baby. At McLaren, Level II Ultrasonography is available. This equipment offers higher resolution than traditional ultrasound machines, giving technicians and obstetricians a finer prenatal image.

LDRP Suites

LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum) Suites are available to all mothers who deliver their babies at The Birthplace at McLaren. Our newly redecorated rooms are equipped to care for you before, during and after the birth of your child. You will enjoy the convenience of staying in the same room during your entire stay. Your husband or designated support person may visit with you anytime or stay with you if you wish. Because new moms appreciate being close to their babies, you will be encouraged to keep your baby in your room as much as possible. Of course, the nursery is always available as an option to meet you individual needs. Please click on this link to learn more about The Birthplace at McLaren.

Neonatology
A neonatologist attends all high risk and cesarean births. Should your baby require special care if complications arise, a neonatologist is on staff and on call 24 hours a day.
